A whole lot of building going on
TOP OF THE HEAP: So far this year, 1,660 building permits for single-family homes have been approved for Hillsborough County, reports the Florida Home Builders Association. That's more than in any other county in Florida. The next closest is Orange County, with 1,425 building permits, followed by Broward County with 1,291 permits.

Paying the price
Homeowners might pay thousands of dollars per home in common fees, but they also reap the benefits.

It's a renter's market in South Tampa
Houses must compete with fancy new apartments to attract residents. Some people are lowering rents.
